- Anaya Bangar whose real name was Aryan Bangar changed her name to Anaya after becoming transgender. This blog will tell the story of her journey from a boy to a transgender woman.
- Aryan is the daughter of Sanjay Bangar a former Indian cricketer and coach. When he was just 8 years old he loved wearing girls’ clothes. He would do this secretly from his mother and would look at himself in the mirror and say “I look so beautiful.”
- Anaya had a passion for cricket since childhood a legacy she inherited from her father. She began playing cricket in the third and fourth grades and joined prominent clubs like Islam Gymkhana From there he started his real training and prepared himself as a big player.
- He later participated in Under-19 tournaments such as the Cooch Behar Trophy and also played for the Puducherry team. His performances in these tournaments were well received and he gradually became recognized as a promising player.
- But after some time a major change occurred in her life. She realized that her body and life were not meant for this. Anaya accepted that her true identity was different. She decided to become a transgender woman and began the process of gender transition
- She faced many physical and mental challenges along the way. She began Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) which involves taking estrogen and other hormones.
- Through this the body gradually develops into a female form – muscle strength body shape voice and other physical changes occur. Anaya herself explained that this change has resulted in her cricket performance not displaying the same strength and energy as before.
- Along with this she also took steps towards gender affirmation surgery. This procedure transforms the body appearance into that of a woman. However it is a long and painful journey involving multiple operations medications and health risks.
- This entire journey cost Anaya approximately 10 to 15 lakh rupees. She didn’t have the support of her family but her friends supported her throughout.
- Anaya loved cricket but being transgender meant she couldn’t play for the men team. She applied to play for the women team but BCCI rules prevented her from even participating. Still Anaya didn’t give up. Through social media and interviews she demanded that the BCCI and ICC enact rules for transgender people. Anaya has a big dream – to play cricket for India
